A Huge Break in the LIBOR Banking Investigation

I discussed before how the real criminals were skating by, but it seems that there might be some hope that they won’t get off Scott Free (whatever the hell that means). Still, a $450 million fine for a company the size of Barclays or UBS doesn’t amount to much and might not even be enough to change their behavior.

But, at least with this tiny ray of hope, one can fantasize that perhaps the oligarchy’s strangle hold can be loosened just a bit, maybe leaving room for me to slip in to the 0.1%…

  1. Most in the US believe that the term, “scot free” comes from the freeing of Dred Scott, the slave.

The term was used, however, as early as the 13th century, to mean “tax free,” a “scot” being a redistributive tax collected in those days. Its use to mean escaping punishment occurred in the 16th century.

One form used was “scot and lot” (tax and allotment).

The word, “scot,” (as a tax) is of Scandinavian origin.

    1. So clearly you qualify to blog here, you are also chock full of useless information just like me. After I posted I was curious enough to check out the Wiki page and got almost exactly what you describe. So many weird things that our in our culture and everyone takes them for granted.
