I like this idea a lot, but unless the Supreme Court really does something shocking, I doubt things will go this far.
There are a couple of ways to look at this. One is that personal feelings are inviolate. Another is that the survival of the race is at stake. As you know, I’m not a fan of GGFGN. That path obviously leads to degradation.
The key to most human thought lies in recognizing selfishness as the prime motivator. There are, however, degrees. There are personal selfishness, cultural selfishness, and racial selfishness. (By racial, I mean the human race, not the artificial cultural differences that are regarded by many as race.)
There is, of course, altruism. I believe that any thinking person that considers altruism will recognize that it’s just a sort of fake face for selfishness. It perhaps make one happy to make another happy.
It is quite clear to me that he human race does not have as its goal the prolongation of the race. The short-term goal is “make me happy” at the expense of racial longevity. The average person’s outlook is so puerile as to be disgusting.
Well, I think that our species will achieve functional immortality in just a few decades, so to me there is little need to reproduce. Anyway, except for a few individuals, as a species I detest humans, so in certain respects I am OK with our extinction. I can’t quite reconcile these feelings with the desire to build space stations and star ships to colonize our galazy, but such is life.
