New York, the nanny state

Breastfeeding Wars: Why Locking Up Baby Formula Is A Bad Idea
Mayor Bloomberg’s campaign against formula feeding in hospitals is profoundly out of touch with the realities of motherhood

If this wasn’t on Time I would have thought it was satire (I admit I didn’t investigate, maybe it is BS, I dunno). I can understand banning something where there is solid scientific evidence that it will seriously impact a child’s future (I like the idea that kids are required to wear bicycle helmets, for instance), but this and other idiotic Bloomberg bans (trans fat in restaurants, large sodas, etc.) just goes to show that he is a tyrant in liberal cloths, but a tyrant none-the-less.

  1. Having lived here 9 years, I realize that New York State is one of the very worst when it comes to taxes, impeding small business, corruption, and things of that ilk.

However, do not confuse NY and NYC. They are not the same thing, although city folk call anything 50 miles north of the city, “upstate NY.”

NYC could just as easily be in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Connecticut. Oftentimes, most of us wish it were.

NYC mayors, as members of the oligarchy, do a lot of silly shit which affects them not at all but has some tendency to garner votes.

There’s very little that Bloomberg does that’s amusing, but perhaps you can get a chuckle from this: he was criticized for leaving his vehicle running for long periods of time so it wouldn’t be too hot when he next used it. He apologized and set his minions to building a stand for a small room air conditioner. This runs off a long extension cord and is directed through a window of his car while it’s standing.

Obviously, he’s very sensitive to the problems of the masses, just “one of the boys.”
