By the time I was old enough to form lasting impressions he was already starting to be considered a crank and most of what I have read about him has been post-crank, so I never really developed any sort of hero worship for the guy (sort of like <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fred_Hoyle\">Hoyle<\/a> and his <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steady_State_theory\">Steady State<\/a> idea).  Reading this article was quite eye opening to me.  More than likely had Pauling kept his mouth shut the &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nutraceutical\">Nutraceutical<\/a>&#8216; industry would be a fraction of its size (and possibly regulated by the FDA, not that that doesn&#8217;t come with its own baggage).<\/p>\n<p>The evidence is quite solid now, <a href=\"http:\/\/sol-biotech.com\/wordpress\/2013\/06\/20\/everything-in-moderation-including-moderation\/\">mega dose vitamins<\/a> shorten your life and increase the risk of cancer and disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2013\/07\/the-vitamin-myth-why-we-think-we-need-supplements\/277947\/ I guess I was too young to appreciate Pauling in his prime.
